In many ways, Pixar’s 13th feature-length movie Brave (out June 22, 2012) ventures into new territory for the animation studio: The Scotland-set adventure film will be Pixar’s first fairy tale, its first picture starring a female protagonist, and its first film co-directed by a woman. EW.com…
Brave is the first animated movie in which the heroine will not seek savior prince. The other new element this time is the queen will not be evil. Brave will focus on the princess’s relationship with his mother.
Scotland, 10th century. Merida is a young princess who chooses a different direction in life, namely to become one of the most famous archers. After numerous conflicts with his mother, Merida get to take a hasty decision, which endangers not only her father’s kingdom, but even her mother’s life.
Reese Witherspoon (Monsters Vs. Aliens) will lend her voice to Princess Merida 10th century Scotland. Beside it we hear the voices of Billy Connolly (The Last Samurai) in the role of King Fergus, Emma Thompson (Stranger Than Fiction) in the Queen Elano and Julie Walters in the role of “Wise Women.”
"In rugged and mythic Scotland, the impetuous, tangle-haired Merida (Reese Witherspoon), though a daughter of royalty, would rather make her mark as an archer. A clash of wills with her mother compels Merida to make a reckless choice, which unleashes unintended peril on her father’s kingdom and her mother’s life. Merida struggles with the unpredictable forces of nature, magic and a dark ancient curse."
